What it is...
WeddingGreen itself is a really simple site. We let you create a page with a
bunch of descriptions of 'items'. An example item may be something like 'A nice dinner
for us on our honey moon - $50.00'. Basically it's a slightly less tacky and much
more convienient way for you to receive monetary presents for your wedding.
How it works...
We are really just a 'dumb interface' to PayPal.com. We don't handle any of the
real processing of money. All we do is let you create a page with a bunch of links
to PayPal. You must also create an account with PayPal which allows you to
receive the funds.
What it costs...
We don't charge anything but PayPal does. They charge around 2 to 3% of whatever the
guest gives. Most of this cost is in reality taken by the credit card companies.
You'll find that this is much lower than what most of the other competing
service charge. For more infomation see the PayPal page.
How do we compare on price...
| Service | Cost |
|---|
| TheBigDay.com | 9 % |
| APerfectWeddingGift.com | 10 % |
| TheKnot.com | 10 % |
| WeddingGreen.com | 2 - 3 % |
Who pays the fee...
The guest gives a fixed amount. Paypal takes some of this out (see above) but
this is hidden from the guest. In other words if they give $50, they only give $50,
not $50 plus 3%.
Do guests need a PayPal account...
No, only the person receiving gifts needs a PayPal account. The guests can simply
give gifts via any major credit card. I believe if your account is not "verified" then they will be presented with a "login to Paypal" dialog.
Which Paypal account type do I need?
We recommend a Premier or Business account. You should be able to use a personal account, though it only allows a limited number of gifts via credit card every 12 months.
Why we created WeddingGreen...
When my then fiance and I were planning our wedding, we decided that because we were in our 30's,
we didn't need much of the stuff found on traditional wedding registries. We were also planning a
six month trip to South America, so the best gift our guests could give us was money to help out on our
unforgettable trip. Since I am a programmer, I put this interface together so that our guests could
give us money easily. We know that many other couples want a "nicer" way of asking for monetary present,
so we decided to provide this service to you.
Why do I get a PayPal error...
If you see "We cannot process this transaction because..." this likely means that
you are trying to click on the "Donate" button on your guest page but you
have not yet created a PayPal account. PayPal is the mechanism by which users send
you money. You must create a PayPal account using the email address
provided to WeddingGreen.
When a guest makes a donation does it get taken off the list...
Currently the list does not get affected in any way when a guest makes a donation. Subsequently, multiple guests
can donate towards the same item.
How do I get a record of what guests have donated...
To see this, log on to Paypal and you will find your payment history. You should
also receive an email when a guest donates.
Will the guest receive a confirmation email...
Yes, the guest will receive an email from Paypal.
